City led through a paul Dickov penalty and Les Ferdinand goal but the Saints clawed their way back into the game to claim a point at the Walkers Stadium.

Adams said after the 2-2 draws: "I am fairly upbeat.

"It's a point on the board and my two forwards have scored.

"In an ideal world it would have been three points but it is not an ideal world is it?

"I suppose Gordon Strachan would have been disappointed at the penalty, but I had a word with Les Ferdinand at half time and he was adamant there was a push on him.
