Brendan Rodgers Provides Injury Update on Caglar Soyuncu & Jonny Evans

Leicester City have been handed a double defensive injury boost after manager Brendan Rodgers provided promising updates on Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans.

Turkey centre-back Soyuncu was ruled out for three months in October after returning from international duty with an adductor muscle injury, similar to that of Wilfred Ndidi.

The muscle is understood to have been torn from the bone, and it was expected that surgery would be necessary to repair the damage. But following Leicester's 4-1 win over Leeds on Monday night, Rodgers (via the Leicester Mercury) revealed that Soyuncu doesn't need to go under the knife.

"Cags doesn’t need the operation, so we’re managing that without the operation. He’s coming along very well. He won’t be anywhere near until after international break."

There was also positive news on his regular partner Jonny Evans, who missed the win at Elland Road with a back problem, with Rodgers adding: "We’ll see how Jonny is. He hopefully might be okay for Thursday (against Braga), but we’ll see over the next 48 hours.”

Leicester have been fortunate that new signing Wesley Fofana has settled into English football in superb fashion, with his early performances for the club earning praise from pundits and fans alike.
He was part of a makeshift back five against Leeds, which also comprised of Marc Albrighton, James Justin, Christian Fuchs and youngster Luke Thomas - with the latter the only player to feature in his favoured position.

Ricardo Pereira is still an absentee following his ACL tear in March, while summer signing from Atalanta, Timothy Castagne, is not expected to be fit until after the international break.

The injuries may be piling up at King Power Stadium, but that hasn't stopped Leicester from charging into second on 15 points, having taken maximum Premier League points on the road this season - thumping Manchester City 5-2 at the Etihad along the way.
