Holmes decision his because his role on the Leicester board could create a conflict of interest with his post at sports agency SFX Sports Group, where he is managing director.

"In view of the fact there would almost certainly be conflicts of interest in the future between my role at SFX and as a director of the club, I shall also be standing down as director and reverting to the role of avid supporter," he said.

"The good name of the club must be maintained for the future."

Holmes was appointed chairman in February when the New Fox plc consortium led Leicester City FC out of administration.
