Leicester City have agreed a fee of £500,000 for West Ham striker David Connolly. He is a pacy player, and can always be relied upon to score goals. I believe this is the most positive signing Micky Adams has made so far, and it's great to see us actually shelling out some money! Now the club needs to make sure that they offer him a good enough contract. It would be a shame to see another player such as Jason McAteer slip through our fingers. He was initially signed from Watford by Feyenoord, but was relatively unsuccessful in the Dutch league, making only 11 appearances in 4 seasons. He was bought by Wimbledon in 2001, and made a huge impact scoring 42 goals in 68 appearances. He was not quite so potent last year, but he had different strike partners from match to match. With some squad consistency, this could also prove to be a really good signing for Leicester City.

Youl Mawene | ||||||
Position Date of Birth Place of Birth Previous Clubs | Defender 16/07/1979 Caen, France Derby County, Lens
Youl Mawene has joined up with the Leicester squad in Finland for a trial. He is a free agent this summer, and could prove to be a very influential signing. Mawene joined Derby County in the summer of 2000 in a £500,000 deal from Racing Club Lens as a very promising defender. Mawene originally spent two weeks on trial at Pride Park before finally persuading Jim Smith that he would be able to cut it in the English game. When signing the player on a four year contract, Smith insisted that Mawene would be one for the future rather than an immediate star. Mawene has gone on to make several appearances for Derby County, despite missing most of one season through a lot of injury. Last season he was voted Derby County's player of the season. At 24, he could certainly be an investment for the future, and will help bring down the squads average age!
