Leicester Expected to Sign Loanee Ryan Bennett on Permanent Transfer

Leicester City are expected to make their loan deal for Wolves defender Ryan Bennett a permanent one.

Bennett joined the Foxes on deadline day last month on a six-month loan to provide cover for Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans at the heart of the Leicester backline - with the centre-back duo helping their side to the third-best defensive record in the Premier League this season, conceding just 26 in 25 games thus far.

And according to the Daily Express, via the Leicester Mercury, the Foxes are set to sign Bennett on a permanent basis, despite the centre-back not yet making an appearance for Brendan Rodgers' side.

If Bennett does move to the King Power permanently, it's been reported that the Foxes will pay £5m for the 29-year-old's services.

Bennett had been a key fixture in the Wolves side since his arrival from Norwich in 2017. In his debut season at Molineux, he made 29 appearances as Wolves gained promotion to the top-flight. He then went on to be part of a sturdy back three alongside Willy Boly and Conor Coady last season as Nuno Espirito Santo's side stunned the Premier League and finished seventh, qualifying for the Europa League.

This season, however, injury has seen Bennett slip down the pecking order and when he returned, he failed to displace Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker for a starting spot.

Nevertheless, despite his limited game time thus far, Rodgers believes the 29-year-old will bring experience, reliability and enthusiasm to the Leicester squad.

“Ryan will bring in that cover we need. The two centre-halves, Jonny [Evans] and Cags [Caglar Soyuncu] have been outstanding all season, and Wes [Morgan] has been the experienced third choice," the Foxes boss said.

Even if he doesn't join Leicester following the completion of his loan deal, Wolves aren't expecting the defender to return to Molineux. When the summer comes around, Bennett will have just a season left on his Wolves contract.
