Chris Makin | ||||||
Position Date of Birth Place of Birth Previous UK Clubs | Defender 08/05/1973 Manchester Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Wigan, Oldham
Chris has attracted interest from Premiership clubs since his contract ran out at Ipswich Town. He made only six appearances last season, and has been taken on trial at Leicester. The assumption is that he needs to demonstrate his fitness before being offered a permanent deal. Makin is typically used in the right back role, although can be played anywhere across the back four as needed. Despite only being 5'9", he is a committed defender, not shirking tackles. He was highly rated while at Sunderland, and was captain for a season. However, he was stripped of the captaincy as a result of ill discipline on the training ground. He was also well thought of by Ipswich fans, some of whom are understandably concerned at him not renewing a contract at Portman Road. Leicester do need to strengthen at the back, and if he manages to prove his fitness on the Finland/Estonia tour, he could prove to be worth a gamble.
