Martin Keown is a player of distinction. He has won just about every honour available in the English game, and has played 43 times for England, scoring 2 goals in the process. It was widely reported that several other clubs were interested in Martin Keown, including Reading and Portsmouth. What attracted him to Leicester was the prospect of some coaching experience. He is renowned as a defender, and by capturing his signature, Micky Adams has clearly signalled his ambition for next season. Keown himself, has acknowledged the extent of the task ahead of him, saying that he has come from the Premiership into the "real world." His career began 20 years ago, as an apprentice at Arsenal. He was to return to Arsenal in 1993, and stayed there for 11 years, becoming a part of one of the greatest teams England has ever seen. He has also been called upon for his leadership qualities, and should be a good replacement for Matt Elliott, who is missing for the first game of the season. Last season, so keen were the club that Keown should pick up a Premiership winners medal, he made brief substitute appearances in the final 10 games of the season, including against Leicester City. In that match he was treated to a standing ovation by Arsenal and Foxes fans alike. Who would have guessed that he would be putting on the blue of Leicester this season? | ||||||
