Newton becomes Martin Allens 10th summer signing and will provide the team with much needed experience having represented West Ham in the top flight last season.

Commenting on the capture of Newton, City boss Martin Allen said: 'I think he will do a good job for us. I watched a video of his game against Birmingham here last season and I think, in no uncertain terms, that that is what I
want on a regular basis.'

The manager also hinted at several other possible transfers over the next week: 'No doubt my phone will be ringing all weekend, though, as there are still a few more deals in the pipeline.'.
