Nugent has suffered a recurrence of a neck injury he picked up earlier in the season and is a major doubt for the visit of Michael Appleton's team.
The City striker has scored 14 goals for Leicester this season and his absence will be a concern, especially as the Foxes have struggled for goals lately.
However, the injury does pave the way for Harry Kane to make his home debut after the Tottenham loanee made an impressive start to his Leicester career - starting alongside Wood and Nugent in attack in the goalless draw away at Blackpool on Saturday.
And, after missing much of this season through injury himself, the youngster will be eager to impress.
Talking to the Leicester Mercury, the England Under-19 star said: "Unfortunately I didn't get a goal and we didn't get the three points (on Saturday), but it was a good experience and I am looking forward to the next game now.
"I want to get experience, get more games under my belt and score some goals. It will be another tough game on Tuesday, but every game is tough in this division.
"We will look forward to it and try to get a win, and push for promotion." Kane added.
Meanwhile, Michael Appleton is concerned that his squad is down to the 'bare bones' after striker Colin Kazim-Richards has become the latest player to join the clubs ever growing injury list.
Kazim-Richard's injury means that former Fox DJ Campbell is almost certain to start against the Foxes tonight.
With this game in hand providing Nigel Pearson's men with a crucial chance to pile pressure on the teams ahead of them, the Foxes will be eager to pick up all three points tonight and stop the rot after a sudden drop in form has seen the team pick up just one point so far this month.
