Izzet, who made a major impact during his time with the Foxes, winning two promotions to the Premier League - in 1996 and 2003, has sounded a word of warning not to get distracted by the chasing pack.
Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, Izzet said: 'Finishing off the job is going to be the difficult part. They have done ever so well and they are now in a position where they can win it.
'But, even when they were 12 points clear at the top of the table, it was still all about going up automatically, it would be nice for them to win the title - but even nicer to go up.'
Should Peterborough win tommorows home clash against basement club Cheltenham, Leicester will fall from the league top spot for the first time since taking the position in November.
