Back to the football and it was another nail biting day for City fans as they watched the defence crumble twice in the opening 18 minutes against a spirited Crewe side. The Foxes dug deep though and fought hard for a draw and if loan signing Elvis Hammond had put away just one of his several chances then all three points would have been ours. The 24 year old striker is yet to score a league goal but after the game Craig Levein was full of praise for his young charge.
He said: "Elvis got himself into some wonderful positions against Crewe and can count himself unlucky not to have scored.
"You have to remember that he created four of his chances himself. He's done the spade work and got himself into the positions to score goals.
"Their goalkeeper got man of the match and for that to happen in a home game tells you that he has been under pressure."
All eyes now turn to the tricky Carling Cup first round tie against Bury at Gigg Lane on Tuesday evening. Its a game that may see some of the youngsters in action. Another start for Hammond looks likely and new signing Hamill may get his first start. Its a competition that City have done well in and it would be a great morale booster to get a resounding win at Bury, but of course it won't be easy.
